Recovery from serious mental illness must involve the whole person in a vital and culturally sensitive community.
What is a Clubhouse?
A Clubhouse is a local community center that offers people with mental illness a place to develop lasting friendships, learn to hope, and provide opportunities to achieve their goals while participating fully in their community.
Since 1948 Clubhouses have radically improved circumstances around the Globe, for people living with mental illnesses. Clubhouses are intentionally structured to provide opportunities to form and maintain friendships and to foster better communication with family and coworkers. During our work day, staff and members work side-by-side building friendships. The Clear Blue Sky Clubhouse is one of over 400 Clubhouses worldwide and we are listed in the International Clubhouse Registry.
We aspire to the clubhouse principles including creating an attractive environmnet that conveys a sense of respect and dignity.
Why?
People with mental illnesses are often not part of anything, they do not belong, and nothing is expected of them. They live stigmatized and marginalized. Clubhouses welcome them as valued contributors to a community of hope and opportunity.
